New Duds

Capri got some new clothes yesterday. Her newborn clothes are so big on her that by morning her shirt would be down to her hips and her legs would get all caught up in the bottom part. I had a couple preemie clothes but we needed more. I know they will only fit her for a few weeks but at least she will be comfy. There is nothing better than a new baby for the family to love on!

I just thought this one was cute. I love how well Myla and Sariah play together. They really are best friends.

Feeling good!

I forgot how it feels to have energy and just feel good. I know it has only been 1 1/2 weeks but my body feels so much better than being pregnant. I have energy to cook, clean and get laundry done. I was even able to zip up my pre-pregnancy pants today. Hurray! I know the lack of sleep is going to catch up with me but I am going to enjoy that today I have energy! That today I feel good!

Food Revolution

Nutrition has become a passion of mine the past few years. I found this show called Jamie Oliver The Food Revolution and I LOVE what he is trying to do. Jamie has a love for healthy clean food. Jamie came to America from Britain to help change the way we eat. His main focus has been on nutrition in schools. Most schools feed our kids processed junk food such as pizza, chicken nuggets, french fries, sugar milk and more junk. I would love to go around and do what he does. Share my love of food and nutrition. If you go to Hulu.com you can check out all the episodes that he filmed while he was here. America can learn so much from what he has to teach. -Note of warning even though it aired on TV there are some bad words.

Here is a clip about chicken nuggets. It will make you think twice about giving your kids them!

Really??? Kids don't know this?

Hurray for weight gain!

This is our first baby that had a hard time with jaundice. Little Capri has been poked five times and lost just about 1 pound bring her down to 6 lbs 1 oz. The doctors tried talking me into substituting nursing with formula because they thought she was not getting enough. Well I am very happy to say that from Friday to this morning she has gained 9 oz! That was all mommy milk! I did not think she needed formula but I was a little worried. I am so glad I trusted my motherly instincts.

Here is a picture of my very yellow baby!

Ohhh Capri

I added a new song to my blog today. This is the song that Capri was named after. My sister and her husband introduced us to Colbie Caillat a few years back but for some reason with this pregnancy Capri really stood out to us. Then her middle name Callie is a spin off of Caillat. If you ask Kirk it is so she will have the initials CCW (for carry concealed weapon), such a boy!

I thought it would be fun to share the song.

some pictures

As most of you know they pump women FULL of fluids when they go into have a baby. Normally I do not have an IV since I do natural deliveries and as you can see by my face I do not like all the added water weight. They gave me so many fluids that when I left the hospital the next day I had not lost any weight from having the baby. I have since lost the water weight but it makes for some crazy first few pictures. Anyway I thought the girls were so cute that I had to share.

Sorry

Sorry we have not been good at returning calls. My uterus is infected again (happened after I had Sariah) so I am down for the count. Last time I went back into the hospital for five days with three different kinds of IV antibiotics. This time they think they caught it early enough, they gave me a shot and some oral drugs. I go back to the doctor tomorrow to make sure.

Also Capri's jaundice is a little to high so we have to bring her back in and get her levels check again tomorrow also. If they have not gone down then they will have us try the home light therapy. I think she will be fine. My milk has come in and she has gone through lots of diapers.

Kirk and my mom have been really great so we should all be feeling better soon. Anyway more pictures to follow soon!

Almost here

Things are progressing! I went to hopefully my last doctor appointment today and I was dilated to a 3 and 75% effaced. My midwife even stripped the membranes, I am not sure how I feel about that. Normally I like to just let everything be natural and let my body do it on its own. Either way we are getting a little closer to the big day. We can't wait to meet you little Capri!

Everyday teaching

All our kids live for books. A fun day out for Paige and Dillon would be loading up on books at the library. My church bag is not full of toys but full of books and that is what keeps Myla and Sariah somewhat quite at church.

Each week we make our trip to return all the books we rented from the library the week before and rent new ones. This week I decided that I would rent the normal kid books and also pick one or two themes for the week that we can learn about together. Myla has been really interested in volcanoes so I thought that was a great topic to get started on. Both girls have LOVED this and I think we will try this every week. So simple!

I decided a few years back that I wanted to homeschool my girls and the more I research and look into it the better I feel about it.

Some of my homeschool friends have told me about this book and I finally sat down to read it. It is called The Well-Trained Mind By Susan Wise Bauer. I love that this book is not just for homeschool parents, it is also a great resource if you have your kids go to public school but want to add to their education at home. Really a great resource book!

I am not big on doing a super structured program for little kids or pushing education. I have been doing preschool at home with Myla and really teaching her what she wants to learn at her pace. So we don't sit down for hours each day and drill on preschool stuff. I teach through out the day everyday. The great thing is Myla is right where she needs to be at this age. She knows all her colors, shapes, ABC's, ABC sounds, writing and is now starting to read. All of this has been on her own, when she is ready or asking to learn something I teach her.

I really enjoy teaching my girls and I have noticed that by teaching Myla at home, Sariah is learning soooo much. She wants to keep right up with Myla and when I ask Myla what letter a word starts with Sariah will answer with the letter sound and then the name of the letter before Myla even has a chance. Myla does not appreciate it so much but I think it is really cute.

I can't wait to until Myla starts kindergarten!

My soap box

Disclosure- I hope I do not offend anyone by my thoughts. If you are easily offended you might not want to read this.

Conference today was AMAZING! There is nothing better than to have strong, faithful, humble men and women teaching us inspired truths. Even after four hours of conference today I felt like I could not get enough. All the talks were so amazing and the spirit was so strong.

One of the talks today was on something that I have been thinking about for awhile. Something that really bothers me.

The talk was by one of my favorite speakers, Jeffrey R. Holland. He started his talk with a question. Why is there so much moral decay around us? As I just stated, this is something that really bothers me. We live in a world where Satan is all around. On Hwy 50 there are billboards with porn on them. Some how this has become acceptable to have out in the open for our children, husbands and even ourselves to see.

Movies, books and radio. I am completely appalled at most forms of entertainment available to us today. I have decided not to see most PG-13 movies because I really feel that PG-13 is the new R. I chose not to be half dressed when I go out. I chose not to curse. I respect the bonds of matrimony. I believe sex should be within the bonds the Lord has set, within Marriage. I try not to talk about sacred things or use crude humor. I am not violent. I do not share these things to boast or say that I am better than those who chose to do those things. Now if I chose not to do those things why would I watch a movie that has those things in them. Why would I watch a movie that takes the spirit away from me.

I feel the same with books. I LOVE to read and I feel reading is very empowering. That we can learn so much from other people. I also think that there are a lot of books that can take the spirit away (just like anything else).
There have been many talks about romance novels. In our family we have had many talks about this subject and we have opened up some books "that everyone else is reading" and read them as a family. It is amazing how different we can see things if we look at them in the eyes of what our children are seeing.

I use to love listening to the radio. I have since turned it off and I bring my own CD's with me in the car. I would normally just zone out when I was driving and not really listen to the words. When I started really listening to the words I decided that it was not for me. Or even worse the commercials or the radio DJ's.

OK so here is how I can relate all my options back to the talk. We are an example in EVERYTHING we do to our kids. Even though it many not seem like they are watching they are and they are learning. I truly believe that we decide how sensitive we are to things we see or hear. I know for me if say I watch a movie that has cursing in it at, first it bothers me and then the more movies I watch the less it bothers me and then not at all. Same with everything else around us. The more we accept it or say well it is in everything the less sensitive we will become.

For the Strength of Youth pamphlet is such a great resource. Having teenagers has really helped us look into things more and rely on the Lord to guide us. When we sat down and read the pamphlet it really opened our eyes to the choices we make and how much media has to do with it.

Does brown rice take too long to cook????

As with other moms with small kids, sometimes the day gets away from me and next thing I know it is 4:30 and I have no plan for dinner. I have cheated in the past and just used white rice since it was so much fast than brown rice. Well here is a great tip if you love brown rice like I do but just run out of time. Cook large batches of brown rice, place in ziploc bags and freeze. Brown rice freezes really well! That way you just pull out of the freezer, warm up and there you go brown rice. Enjoy!
As a side note- You can save the ziploc bags and use them again and again. Just wash them out and put them aside for the next time you make brown rice.

Pork with Orange sauce

(In case you did not guess, this is not my picture)
Tonight's dinner was amazing in two ways. First I cooked meat in our house. I am not a full vegetarian but I do eat meat VERY sparingly. Second because it was so yummy!
Pork with Orange Sauce

4 lg carrots, cut into 1-in. chucks (or baby carrots)

1 Whole pork tenderloin (1 1/4 lbs or I just did pork chops from Trader Joe's)

1 lg navel orange

1 tsp. Extra virgin olive oil

1 sm. red onion sliced

1 tbsp dijon mustard with seeds (yummy)

Precooked brown rice

1.) steam carrots until tender and set aside

2.) If using a tenderloin, cut pork crosswise into 1 1/4 in. thick slices. Press each slice with palm of hand to flatten slightly;

For either tenderloin or pork chops

cover both sides with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper.

3.) Heat 12 inch skillet on med heat until hot. Add oil, then put pork in single layer. Sprinkle onion in pan around the pork; cook 4 minutes or until pork browns. Turn pork over and stir onion; cook 4 to 5 minutes longer or until pork is done cooking. Transfer onion onto plate, leaving onion on the skillet.

4.) Add mustard, 1/2 tsp orange peel, and squeeze 1/2 cup juice from orange to skillet; cook 1 minute.

5.) Divide pork, carrots, onion, and rice among 4 serving plates and spoon sauce over all.
