Whats for dinner?

I really liked tonight dinner and so did Kirk. I got these yummy round (like a baseball) zucchini's at an very cute organic farm in Placerville. So I made stuffed zucchini and cous cous but this was not normal cous cous. I made it with a sweet syrup and added craisins and chopped almonds. It really added a nice flavor and made it taste totally different that normal cous cous.

BEST pie ever!!

The girls and I went blueberry picking on Saturday so I thought I would make a yummy pie. Oh my this pie was AMAZING! Even Kirk said it was the best pie he has ever had (and he is hard to please). Don't let the picture fool you. It was not my best looking pie but boy was it good. Here is the recipe for those of you who would like it. I bet it would work with most fruits. No don't forget the homemade whipping creme or vanilla ice cream.

1 cup organic pure sugar cane
5 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups fresh blueberries
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1 tablespoon butter

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon, and sprinkle over blueberries.
Line pie dish with one pie crust. Pour berry mixture into the crust, and dot with butter. Cut remaining pastry into 1/2 - 3/4 inch wide strips, and make lattice top. Crimp and flute edges.
Bake pie on lower shelf of oven for about 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

People have told me so many times that they would like to do more homemade stuff but think it will take way to much time. Well today I made laundry soap, stain remover, hand soap, dish soap, and all purpose cleaner all in about 30 minutes. Now if you add up all the money I saved doing it myself, that is pretty cool.

I thought I would share my favorite stain removed recipe. This recipe is sooo easy but it works better then anything I have purchased at the store.

Stain Remover
1/2 Cup Ammonia
1/2 Cup Liquid Laundry Detergent (Use homemade)
1/2 Cup White Vinegar
1/2 Cup Water
Mix well, and store in spray bottle. *Hint - Reuse your "Spray and Wash" bottle.

Wood Family

For those of you that know the Wood family know of the great lost they had this past Friday. Kent and Kathy Wood were driving home from girls camp and got in a really bad car accident. Kathy Wood past away and Kent is still in the hospital with some serious injuries.

What a great family! I loved growing up with their family and going to girls camp with Kathy. One year she brought pics of her sons and sold them for tickets that we could earn. Let me tell you they were some hot items! All the girls left camp with some modeling pics of the Wood boys.

Their musical talent is unbelievable. Kent and Kathy both sang amazing and their son Sean who I grew up with has that talent. A few months back he released his new album "Cannonball". If you want to check out his music here is the link.

My prayers are with their family at this time and for Kent to heal for all his injuries!

Why Don't You

A really good friend growing up is a singer and he just wrote this song and I LOVE it.

Check it out!! The song is "Why Don't You" Also check out his version of "Unchained Melody" WOW!

I thought I would try something new this morning so I made sweet Korean pancakes. They almost taste like donuts, they have a sweet center with brown sugar, cinnamon and crushed nuts. Sooo yummy, the sugar melts in the center and drips out as you bite into it.
(they were so yummy we did not get pics so this not my pic)
The second kind of treat pancake that we LOVE to make is
Blueberry Muffin Pancakes
They way we make them is we take our favorite pancake mix,
add a little more water
and the cook them like you would normal pancakes.
They are really a nice treat and have a texture close to a muffin top.
This was Kirk's creation on Saturday and has now become a family favorite.

Fathers and traditions

The love of a father... Since Kirk and I got married (five years next month) he has always said that we need to drink mate (mah-tey) and do crossword puzzles together. As a boy Kirk use to watch his dad Ernie drink mate and do crossword puzzles with his wife. Kirk's dad died a few years ago. Kirk went on his mission to Argentina, his dad served his mission in Argentina and his oldest brother just returned from Argentina as mission president.

Mate is a drink found in South America and traditionally you would drink it in with friends from a gourd or metal cup and a metal straw with a filter at the end. With friends you would sip the mate and then pass it on the next person would fill the cup with hot water, drink it and pass it on.

Kirk has not had mate since his mission (lets just say it has been a few years). So as one of his Fathers Day gifts I ordered mate from Argentina. I think he was really surprised and was happy at the thought. Here are some pics of the mate. It was really good and fun to drink. A new family tradition!
I am so grateful for my husband and the father he is. Kirk loves his kids so much. They are so lucky to have a daddy that loves them as much as he does. Cheers to dads everywhere!

Lost and Found

I lost my cell phone over a week ago (So if you have called and had no return call sorry). Tonight Kirk found it. I turned my house over even Myla's room (that is where we find most things) and no luck. I guess patience paid off! Hurray. I do not like being in the car without my phone.

Favorite Shampoo/Conditioner

OK so here is my new favorite shampoo/conditioner. Are you ready for this????

A lot of hair products have honey as an added ingredient that is suppose to be really great for hair. Well why not get rid of all the fillers and chemicals. Just do honey alone, it works for both shampoo and conditioner. My hair has so much more body and texture than it does with normal shampoos. It rinses clean with no stickiness. I buy it at a big box store and it saves so much money. Just thought I would share.

Favorite Blog

My favorite blog these days. Right up my alley.

Paige is growing up so fast! Paige just graduated from Middle School and will be off to High School next year. Here are some pics from her graduation. She really liked having a day just about her and getting to dress up. Her mom did her hair and I did her make-up. What a team!

Today was Myla's first talk in Primary. I was really nerves to say the least. I was not sure how it would go or if she would even speak. I kept thinking she is just so little to be giving a talk. She did great, she had little pictures to show and I whispered everything for her to say. I just love this little girl so much. I think she will always have a special spot in my heart since she is my first. I love teaching the gospel to my kiddos and watching them learning and growing.

Not in the mood...

I have been so out of the blogging loop lately. I normally go a million miles an hour and love getting so much done in a day. That has not been my mood lately. I am tired and I have really not been feeling great (sorry no big announcement). I NEVER sit and watch t.v. during the day (way to much guilt) but now I can not find the energy to get much done. I even turned on the t.v. yesterday. Weird! I'm going to Arizona for a much needed girls trip in a few weeks so hopefully that will get me out of this funk. Girls trip meaning my girls and I are going to see my sis for a whole week.

Anyway I do really love California weather right now. I love how the sun is shinning yet it is still not hot. I love how it cools down at night and if I leave the windows open I can cuddle up in a blanket and drink something warm. Tonight I made some homemade lemongrass herbal tea. Yummy and my house smells so wonderful.

All I can say is yuck!

As I was moving the clothes out of the dryer today I kept smelling a strong sent of poo. I looked everywhere and could not find the source. I continued moving the clothes out of the dryer and happened to look all the way in. To my surprise I found poo smeared all over the inside of the dryer. Now I have found many things in the dryer (crayons, nails, and knives) but never poo. Let me tell you cleaning poo out of the lint trap is not very fun trust me on that one.

I could not figure out how it would get in there. How it would get through the washing machine and into the dryer without anyone noticing. My only guess is Myla must have had an accident and P or D probably helped her and did not clean up the mess without it going through the wash. Yuck!! I do cloth diapers but let me just say I am very clean and that would have never happened. Double yuck!!

I'm going to make some of these for Amy's new little or should a say big (he was 10 lbs) baby. Congrats Amy! Of course his booties will be a little different a little more "boy".
