Our new little babies

Our first baby chicken hatching!

Thursday we had a few new additions to our family. We had four baby chicken's hatch yesterday and today we have had three more. We still have five more eggs. I do not think all of them will hatch but I am interested to see how many will.
When we started this new adventure three weeks ago we knew nothing about hatching chickens. Well Kirk and I sure learned a lot last night. Once the chickens beak breaks through the egg the count down begins. The chicken really needs to work as hard as he can to get out before the shell totally dries out. If it dries out the chickens can not get out by themselves and without a little help they would die. So you have to chip little pieces of the shell away just as a chicken would. So for hours last night Kirk and I worked on three of the chickens to help them out. As you can see from the pictures it takes a long time. Seven out of eight are doing great today. The seventh one is struggling with balance and walking. I'm hoping he will pull through.

The babies are coming!!

Each day we have to turn the chicken eggs three or four times. Tonight Paige and I were turning the eggs and noticed the eggs were cheeping. It was so crazy to hear these little eggs make so much noise. The kids went to bed and made us promise that if the eggs hatched to come and wake them up. Tomorrow I will probably have a handful of little babies and new pictures to share. Until then!

Can you guess who is under the buckets?

Busted! Myla and Eli's favorite thing to do at our house. They like to pull off all the cushions off the couch and then climb on top. So cute.

This one is for Adam. The amazing thing is that Eli is so cute he even can pull off a pink hat. Myla was really upset he was wear her pink hat.

Where the parents are while the kids are having so much fun? Playing guitar hero of course.

Homemade laundry soap

Homemade has become a passion of mine so I thought I would share my favorite recipe for laundry soap. It is amazing how much stuff we buy from stores that we can easily make at home. Like all purpose cleaner, window cleaner, dish soap, wood cleaner, etc. It is better for our families and the environment. I have lots of other recipes if anyone is interested. Also it saves money! The laundry soap only cost 1 pretty penny per load!!

3t Naptha Soap Grated
4t Washing Soda
4t Borax
5 Cups Container cold water
3/4 cup hot water
Any essential oil you like for sent

Cook the hot water and naptha grated soap on low until it has dissolved. Add washing soda and borax. Stir until thicker. Add to your container and then add cold water and essential oils. Shake, let sit over night and then shake one last time. Then enjoy!!

Grating the soap

After you are done cooking it on the stove pour it into any container. I use old laundry soap containers. It keeps them out of landfills and also they work great!

All Done. I have learned many things are much easier than they seem!

Gardening

Here are my blackberries and Blueberries.
The blueberries are starting to bloom. We will have a few blueberries to enjoy this season.

I love getting ready for summer. The sun is shinning and I get to start a new garden. Each year I get so excited by all the fresh veggies and fruit. I love watching them grown and going out each day to see what new is there. This year I have over 30 plants that I have started indoors. In a few weeks time I will get to go outside and get my hands dirty!

Baby chicks

We are having a baby! Ok well babies and that would baby chickens. We picked up an incubator today, went down to Orangevale and bought some eggs and here we go. The kids are so excited about watching them hatch and grow. I will keep you updated about the babies. I guess it only take 21 days for them to hatch and once they are six months old they can start laying eggs. Fresh organic eggs every morning.
